May
2005, Volume 8, Issue 5
General
Meeting - May 3, 2005
The meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm by President
Keith Thorson.
Guests:
Dante and Frankie, Dave Karnes, and Steve Maddy. Kevin
Fanady is a new member from Fresno. He drives a 2001
WS6 Trans Am, black on black. Welcome Kevin, we are
happy to have you join our Club.
Old
Business:
Leo reported on the past events.
Movie
and Bowling Night:
There was a very good turn out for the bowling, however,
only a couple of cars for the movie. The kids attending
were, Daman, Angle, Teri and Justin. Justin is Dennis
and Terry's grandson. Only four years old and a 123?
Wow!!! Kinda makes you wonder what the adults were doing.
Leo said he even out bowled the adults. After the big
buildup Leo admitted Justin did have the bumper rails
up. (That keeps the ball from going in the gutter.)
The other attendees were, Leo, Terry, Dale, Jennifer,
Amber and Tater who was a guest of Dale and Jennifer's.
Leo won the first game with a 118. Then off to the movies.
Chili
Cook-Off:
This was an annual event held every year at the home
of Irene and J.O. We had a total of eight chili's. You
could really tell who was on the road to win that day.
Arron Bechtel not only made one chili, not two chilies
but three chilies.
Results for the Cook Off were: Best Green, J.O. Raff,
Best Red, Arron Bechtel, Hottest, Leo Brown, Wimpiest,
Arron Bechtel and Peoples Choice, Terry Trimble. Awards
were presented to the recipients - - - A ribbon and
a $15 gift certificate to Chili's Restaurant. (Get the
connection?) .
Towe
Museum:
Our six cars are tucked safely in the museum. Cars being
shown are: Dennis Trimble's 1968, Teal Blue Firebird,
J.J. Apilado's 1972 White 455 HO Trans Am, J.O. and
Irene's 1979 Silver Trans Am, Keith Thorson's , 1984
Black and Gold Convertible Trans Am, Dave Gershon's
1989 White Turbo Trans Am / Indy Pace Car, and Terry
Trimble's 2002 Red Trans Am Convertible.
J.O. and I went down a couple of weeks ago and took
some info on our Club and membership forms. The cars
are just gorgeous!! The staff there are keeping them
dusted off and they really shine under the lights. The
cars will be there until the 29th of April. J.J. said
the cars must be picked up April 30th at 9am so the
incoming car club can get their cars set for the month
of May. J.O. reported on Club insurance. Insurance can
be purchased through The Hartford at a cost of $804.
The coverage is for $2,000,000. There's no mileage limitation,
no usage restrictions , except for racing.
Keith said he was going to talk to California Burger
about having another show and shine a week or so before
Memorial Day. It was a great turn out last time, we
even had a couple of cars from Santa Rosa show up .
New
Business:
Movie
and Bowling - 3/6/05:
Before Leo got into new business he had a story to tell.
Seems he was invited by the President of the Bay Valley
Corvette Club to come join them in a run to Santa Cruz.
He claims it was the best run he had ever been on in
his entire life. He said it was kind of like our old
runs when we had 20 or more cars on the road. However,
there were 60 Corvettes on this run. But to make a long
long story short. He got into a challenge and had his
car up to 152mph. Don't you know those spinner hubcaps
were really turning. They probably turned for seven
hours after the car stopped. He said everyone was driving
sensibly. (Sure they were.)
Leo said the Memorial Day Parade has been cancelled.
It seems it was in conflict with other events for the
day.
The Craw Dad Festival has also been cancelled.
We may slip in a Safari Adventure. Lunch and a trip
through the country side and see lots of wild animals.
(Tame ones).
Leo said he has info on an A.C.C.C., (Association of
California Car Clubs, Inc.) that our Club belongs to.
They are holding their legislative conference May 10
to 13th. Cost is $35. There is a buffet for $10. If
you are interested check with Leo for more info.
There is an upcoming event to raise money for the Towe
Museum. Sounds like a great event. Please check with
Leo for more information. They need judges etc.
Hell Gate is set for June 25th and 26th. More info at
next meeting. This is a terrific run.
The Corvette Club would
like to join us on this run. With a large group room
rates will be cheaper.
Motion made to join, seconded, carried. For more events
check "Upcoming Events" section.
New jackets will cost about $55 ea. They will be tan
with the Club logo.
Motion to adjourn at 8:30, seconded and passed.
Respectfully submitted - Irene Raff - Secretary.
PAST
EVENTS by Leo Brown: Movies, Bowling and Cream.
Trans Ams, Oh Trans Ams, Where for art thou Trans Ams!
That was the calling at approximately 10:30 that Sunday
morning. The 6th of March to be exact. There were a
total of three (count them) birds that showed up and
one ugly truck (Keith). Terry and her granddaughter,
Dale and Jennyfer and myself. Now that I think about
it, Dale and Jennyfer didn't bring their bird, but instead,
they brought big birds bus. Anyway, it turned out that
only two (yes two) went to the movies. I decided to
pass on the movies, but made the trip. Terry and her
granddaughter decided to watch a "X" rated movie. "X"
meaning extra slow like her driving. Moving on, we headed
to Country Club Lanes where we met several people who
wanted to show their stuff at bowling. Dale, Jennyfer
and family were there. Keith showed up. Terry's Klan
(daughter, soon to be husband and bebe's kids) was there
and friends of Dale and Jennyfer's (Amber and Tator)
showed up as well.
After dipping the sauce, it was on... We had two lanes.
One for the adults and one for the kids. Dale's friend
(Tator) started off like a champ, but forgot to take
his Viagra and petered out. Need I say more? We all
had a lot of fun watching each other bowl, but there
could be only one winner for the adults and that was,
of course, me. I have listed the scores of both adults
and kids game below. After that, we had a peachy time
at Leatherby's. Special thanks to all who participated
and made this event as fun and memorable to all.
Leo - 118
Justin - 123
Tator - 110
Damon - 67
Dale - 115
Angel - 96
Terry - 87
Sarah - 92
Jennyfer - 70
Amber - 63
(P.S.) Did I forget to mention that Justin had the highest
score out of everyone? Oops! It slipped my mind. I do
want to give Props to Justin for beating everyone's
score. I guess that snuggy a year ago did him some good.
Leo Brown.
PAST
EVENTS by Leo Brown: Can't Touch This Chili Cook-Off,
April 20th, 2005.
A total of eight chilies! And who says we're having
a gas crisis. There was plenty of gas at J.O.'s and
it was free. Let's talk about Aaron. Now, he went all
out and brought not one, not two, but three different
types of chili. He was going for the gold (all of it).
Anyway, it wasn't a super big crowd, but not too bad
in size thanks to Terry and Dennis's Klan. I was late
in attending because I was at the Levitz parking lot
where we decided to meet (not at Kmart, Terry) getting
juiced up for the event and locked my keys in the car.
By the way, did I say juiced up? I meant to say preparing
myself by getting in tune with one's body and spirit
(Maybe too much spirits). Thank God for AAA, although
they were a little slow getting there. By the time I
made it to J.O. and Irene's, judging had already begun.
I too, thinking I had to defend my title brought two
chilies. Keith brought a chicken type chili, J.O. had
his usual green chili and Terry brought what I think
was a chicken chili. The votes are in and the winner
for "Best Red" is Aaron Bechtel. J.O. took "Best Green"
(Are you surprised?) and "Hottest" was the one and only,
Leo Brown. When it came to the "Wimpiest", that went
to Aaron Bechtel. He should have been like Popeye and
ate his spinach, but instead he wanted to pay us Tuesday
for a hamburger today (Wimpy). We had a wonderful time
and as always, J.O. and Irene did a wonderful job in
hosting this fun event at their fallacious palace they
call "Home". Now, on a lighter note, what's up with
them judges? Tell me this. How can a green chili almost
win in the "red" chili category? I wonder what peace
pipe they were smoking. Of course, we still need to
thank the judges (Terry's Klan) and speaking about judges,
Terry took the prestigious award of "People's Choice".
Congrats to all who participated and special thanks
to Rachel and company for doing a fine job in judgin.
Leo Brown.
