February 2004, Volume 7, Issue 2

General Meeting-February 3rd, 2004

The meeting was called to order by Sgt. At Arms, Jaime Perez, at 7:18. President Keith Thorson presiding.

Minutes were corrected as to the location of the Valentines Day Brunch. The El Torito Restaurant for brunch is located at 1212 Howe Ave., not Arden Way. Motion by Jaime Perez and seconded by Carmen Luci to accept the minutes as corrected. Motion carried. There will not be a ‘caravan’ to brunch. Go directly to the El Torito.

In the absence of J. O. Raff, Ted Bechtel read the Treasurer’s report.

Old Business: Les Griffin;
Jaime reported on the Memorial Service for Les Griffin. Les passed away quite suddenly last month. Those in attendance were Jaime, Carmen, J.O, Dennis, Leo, Frank, Gary and Gayle. A slide show of Les’ life was presented. Eulogies were offered by members of Les’ family and members of the Club. After the service a light lunch was provided for those attending.

Super Bowl Party:
Terry was not informed, by the Straw Hat Pizza Parlor we went to, that a musical group meets there on the first and third Sundays of the month. Gary said we may not want to go there anymore. One banjo is not bad but a bunch of banjo's is way to much. They were quite loud and didn’t even stop playing when the National Anthem was played. Keith said, “Thirty banjos sound very nice, outside in a park but not inside in a space like the pizza parlor.

The “Game Pool” was pretty much a “Leo Pool”. The first quarter was won by Frank Brown. Second quarter was won by Leo. The third quarter was won by Leo. The fourth quarter was won by Frank Brown. (I wasn’t at the meeting but I’m going to put my two cents in here anyway. When Leo bought all those squares he didn’t say anything about some of them being Frank’s. Not until after he won the first quarter. So when Frank reads these minutes, if he hasn’t already heard, he won two quarters. Each quarter paid $12.50, so Frank, make Leo pay up!!!!)

Terry said the only other run she had planned was to Jackson Rancheria and no one showed up at the meeting place.

New Business:

Club Mugs. Theo thought Club mugs would be a good money raiser for our Club. He checked into buying the stainless steel mugs with our Club logo printed on one side and the Firebird emblem on the other. They would cost us $363.11 which includes set up, tax and shipping for 72 mugs.. We will sell them for $15 dollars each or $25 for two.

It was suggested that we have them on display at Autorama. We will not be able to sell them but we want to have them on display. Keith says he dropped one today and didn’t spill his coffee. They come in left or right hand grips.

Gary said he was talking to Shane Elting. (He used to be a member of our Club). His wife has a boutique shop at the Galleria Mall. When we have car shows, or events, she would be interested in bringing some of her things from the shop for sale.

I’m not sure who was speaking, I didn’t recognize the voice, but he was asking about a mall show. He was wondering if the other malls in the area insisted on two million insurance coverage. He said he really misses the mall show. He mentioned the new Country Club Mall. It has been completely remodeled and is very nice. He said he would check it out and get some info on it.

Dennis talked about Autorama. The cars that are entered in the show need to be at Cal Expo for setup by 4pm on Wednesday Feb. 11th. Dennis said he didn’t really know at this point exactly how the decorations were going to be set. He wanted to wait until the cars were in place first.

Terry sent around sign-up sheets for some of our upcoming activities:

Keith is checking in with the Sacramento Brewing Co. for a possible Christmas Party. Separate room with no charge. Buffet style.

Gary mentioned Beerman’s in Lincoln. It is a very nice place worth looking into. There are other places that we would like to have checked out. Gary said that Jim Boy’s Tacos in Loomis have enlarged their parking lot and are now having their event just once a month with music, etc.

Trans A Rama has been set for June 11th. & 12th. Planning meeting at Carrows on February 22nd at 2pm.

Dave suggested someone write up an article about Trans A Rama and send it to the Pontiac Enthusiast Magazine. We may get the information out about the event through them.

David Michael mention the Tognotti’s car show. More on that at the next meeting. (David just happens to be part of the management team).

With no further business, Frank Brown moved to close the meeting. Seconded by Gary Vollstedt, motion was carried. Adjourned at 8:20 pm.

I want to thank Theo for running the recorder and taking such good notes for me at this meeting. J.O. and I were in Las Vegas celebrating our 54th wedding anniversary. (Boy, I love those penny machines!).

Respectfully submitted - Irene Raff, Secretary.
