July 2004, Volume 7, Issue 7

General Meeting - July 6th, 2004

The meeting was called to order by J.J. Apilado at 7:07 PM and President Keith Thorson was introduced.

The Secretary's Minutes were reviewed and two corrections noted. Activity Emails are being provided by Ted Bechtel, not Leo and in 2004 Upcoming Events, spelling of the Marval Car Show was corrected. The minutes were accepted as corrected.

Visitor Brennan Young introduced himself. Brennan described his cars-a 77, 2 78s, a 79, an 85 and parts. He has been buying Trans Ams and has the rear clip for J.J. damaged car. He met the Club at the California Burger show.

The Treasurer's Report was approved as read.

J.J. described his accident-$8,000 in damages and the Insurance Company wants to pay $2,500 for his car which has been appraised at $8,200.

Old Business:
Dennis described the California Burger event. There were 12 cars plus 4 cars that arrived from Santa Rosa at 9PM.

Miniature Golf , June 27th:
(See Leo's article elsewhere in this edition.) He mentioned that Keith and Leo both had holes in one on the last hole and won a free game.

Kragen Car Show:
No attendance except Mike Smith, Gordon Tackett and Gordon's friend, and Dave Gershon.

Drag Night, June 16th:
Only Dennis and Terry showed. Terry's Tempest died and had to be pushed out of line. Ted Klein says that Dave Karnes got his car back and plans to challenge him.

Crawdad Festival, June 20th:
Five cars met at Levitz. Leo described difficulty with the Parking Attendant. It was crowded, good food, beads, Mardi Gras atmosphere, bikers.

Insurance:
No luck on insurance but Leo recommends that the problem be revisited.

Jackets:
J.J. presented a sampl of a product by J.C. Jones in Redding. They reproduced the Bird and Rockers for a $100.00 set-up fee. He also displayed an original jacket. During Troy Craythorn's tenure, the By-Laws were revised. The sample displayed required 150K stitches. The usual charge is $1.00/stitch but the cost will be $50.00 to have the Bird/Rockers sewn on a jacket. A jacket catalog was distributed and the "Port Authority" Signature-Cascadia Jacket, style J772 was recommended since there is no place to obtain the old style jacket. Check http://sanmar.com for a look. Click on Catalog, then Outerwear. Keith likes the current logo as shown on our cards, TransScript and Craythorn era jackets but J.J. likes the old style, old bird. Subject tabled until September meeting. Everyone research it and let your recommendations be known.
.

Keith's Korner

I'd like to thank everyone who came out to our Show & Shine at CALIFORNIA BURGER June 11. Thanks to you all, we had some great raffle prizes & some nice cars. We had three 2nd generation cars, three 3rd gen. Cars, and six 7th gens. Along with three heavy modified 4th Gens. That came all the way from Santa Rosa.

It started out a little warm but thanks to CALIFORNIA BURGER, we had plenty to drink. They have a huge menu from burritos to steak and like always, the food was excellent! I hope everyone had as much fun as I did and went home with a raffle prize.

I talked to the staff who worked there after the show. They were all glad we were there and asked us to come back again to hold another car show. I know we'd also like to thank J.O. and Irene who once again helped everything go smoothly and did a great job with the raffle prizes.

A reminder to everyone that our events are printed up in the monthly newsletters and are also posted on the website. If things change or other events are scheduled that are not listed, you will be notified. The phone committee was set up a couple of years ago just as a courtesy because some events came up too late to be posted and sometimes meeting places and times had to be changed. Thanks to Ted B. who is sending out Emails to anyone with an Email address, along with the phone committee, hopefully everyone is being notified.

Like yourselves though, our daily routine can be kind of hectic and sometimes we are unable to call or forget. Terry has been doing a great job as Activities Director planning an event almost every other weekend. So take time one day during the week to look over the newsletter or check out our website. I know the other members of the phone committee have been calling and thanks to Diana who sometimes has to call for me.

Remember though, these calls are just courtesy calls by volunteers. Don't depend on them or be upset if you are not notified.
Keith Thorson

Put Put Golf Fourrrr!

And it's on…. It's June 27th (Sunday) and what a day! We had a total of five cars show for this tee off extravaganza and what fun we had. Besides myself and my wife Sue, Dennis and Terry, Keith, J.O. and Nicole all showed up. Irene later graced us with her presence but did not play.

What happened to those individuals crying about no activities on Sunday because I work on Saturday?

Anyway, we all had a great time. Keith opened it up with a hole in one. Ain't that about a "B". We all know what Keith does on weekends. On week days, he plays pocket pool…. Anyway, it was the ladies vs. the guys and to make a long story short, we ended up in the "Agony of defeat" podium…. Dennis, although, thought he did very well because he had the highest score, but little did he know it meant he was competing in the wee wees and lost. J.O. and I did okay, but I did lose the bet we had going. J.O. beat me by one stroke, so now I owe him a drink. I hope he likes Miller Draft. As for the ladies, Nikki was just knocking the balls in the hole. Terry and Sue did a pretty good job as well. They were both neck and neck throughout the course. On the 18th hole, Keith and I got a hole in one and won a free ticket to do it again. We decided to donate the pair of tickets for the next raffle.

After going on the PGA tour, we all decided to go for pizza. We went to Giovanni's and it will be the last time we ever go there. Nasssty. Well, I won't complain too much since I didn't have to pay for it…. Thanks Nikki for buying the pizza…. After that, Sue and I took the High road and everyone else took the Low road and they got home before us… Oh, by the way, for those who are interested, the scores were Keith-49, J.O.-66, Dennis-74, Nikki-54, Sue-62, Terry-61, and myself, "Fast", "Very Fast".
