If you're new to the TACA, GSC message board, let us welcome
you. Following are some basic guidelines for our new members.
1. Double Posting
If you've made a post and would like to add to it, revise
it, or change something about it, please use the edit button
to do so instead of making another post right after it. Double
posting takes up bandwidth and can make the page load slower
for people with slower connections. Also, it clutters up the
thread, especially if you're just adding a line or two to
your original post.
2. Signatures
All of the members have the choice of adding a signature to
their posts. This can be done via your profile control panel.
Please keep it clean and non offensive.
3. Advertising
For members: In keeping with the no soliciting policy, we
ask that you not advertise for other sites and the like on
our board. I understand that the definition of 'advertisement'
is vague; what about my personal homepage? What if its car-related?
Well, once again we ask you to use your own common sense regarding
this. If one of the Mods or Admin issues you a warning about
what they consider an ad and you disagree, don't hesitate
to ask us about it. Also, don't hesitate to ask if something
you want to link to of yours would be considered advertising
or not.
4. Duplicate Topics
Before starting a new topic, please take a glance at the list
of active topics to see if there is already a discussion about
it. Sometimes, you may start a new topic only to find that
the exact same topic exists on the same page. This is just
to reduce clutter and combine similar trains of thought for
better discussion.
5. Moderators
The Moderators for each individual forum are listed in the
description on the main message board. These people are responsible
for making sure that gears run smoothly (pun intended) and
reserve the right to edit, lock, or delete things they find
if they need to do so. All the Mods are responsible people
and never do things unless it's necessary. However, if you
do have an issue with something a Mod has done, let that Mod
know.
6. Respect
Much of this is again very common sense stuff: no flaming,
no personal attacks, and refrain from unnecessary vulgarities
(a long string of random cursing shows - at most - a lack
of imagination). Please keep in mind that the internet doesn't
carry emotion well and what may seem like a serious insult
may be the other person just kidding around. We do that a
lot here. Just take a moment and let a cooler head prevail.
Often on message boards, simple misunderstandings lead to
pages and pages of flaming. I've seen it happen, fortunately
not on here.
7. Enforcement
Our guidelines are pretty simple and common sense stuff. However,
there are times when people choose to ignore some of the above
and actions are taken which could result in being restricted
from using the site. The following lays out the steps that
may lead to a banning.
Warning: This can take one of two forms: a warning and a formal
warning. Something like personal attacks, letting an offensive
phrase fly, or the like will result in a warning. In cases
such as that, the Mod will make it clear that you should cut
it out. A formal warning, however, will be explicitly stated.
This can be made for a variety of circumstances such as continuous
flouting of previous warnings or for something extremely offensive
or inappropriate.
Suspension: If warnings don't work, your account will be suspended
for a specified period of time (usually a week) after which
you'll be allowed to return to TACA, GSC, hopefully with a
lesson learned.
Banning: That's it; you're done. A permanent ban will result
only when all other recourses have been exhausted. In extreme
circumstances (obvious flamers and trolls), banning will be
immediate. |
