2002, Volume 5, Issue 9 General
Meeting-September 3rd, 2002 The meeting was
called to order by Sgt. At Arms, Dante' Higgins. President Ted Klein presiding.
No guests this evening. However, Ted had not met our newest member so he was asked
to introduce himself again. Don Shanahan joined our Club last month. He has a
2002 Collectors Edition Trans Am Automatic / Yellow. We have all been drooling
over the one in the show room. Smart choice Don.
Minutes were approved
as printed. One question came up regarding the amount of cars that were entered
into the car show for Trans A Rama. The minutes had 45 cars which was right to
a point. We had 73 cars at the car show, only 45 were being judged and the rest
were "show only".
With the absence of the Treasurer, the secretary
gave the report. We had one new member last month for an income of forty dollars.
We had no expenses for the month of August so our balance is up forty dollars
from last months report. The total in our general fund and our Trans A Rama fund
is $5,478.70, and balances with the bank statement.
Old
Business:
Golf
Shirts: All polo shirts have been paid for except one and Leo is
taking care of that this evening. Ted said he did have some extras if anyone was
interested in another one.
Past
Activities:
Saturday,
August 10th: This was one of those 3 event events all rolled into
one. With six cars and one non - TA it was food at Woody's and Triple X movie.
Leo assured us it wasn't an "X" rated movie but the title of the movie was "XXX".
After the movie it was off to the bowling center. The bowling was a little competitive
- high score was 141 and Leo said he had it. No one was forced to go to all three
sites. You could do them all or just one or two. Rick Williams, one of our past
members was also present. It's fun to meet up with those who were members of our
Club. Sometimes we can get them to come back. August
17th: The Club made the run to Fairfield to the Pontiac dealership
to help out with their first car show. They were really glad to see our Club with
our 10 cars. Leo said everyone who was there won an award. Our Club received a
trophy for Club Participation. This was the first for this dealership and with
25 cars it was a pretty good start. Leo said he was pretty sure they will do it
again next year and maybe we can get a larger turn out from our Club.
After the car show it was off the Raley Field for the River Cats game. There were
several people who said they would attend this game but some didn't make it. Leo
started selling tickets and he said we had quite a few "honorary Trans Am
Club members" sitting with us that evening. The Cats won and the fireworks
afterwards was very nice. We received preferred parking for regular parking fees.
August
25th: Moaning Caverns didn't happen. Leo made phone calls and didn't
get many yes answers so it was cancelled. Leo had a block party the night before
this event that went quite late. He said he, himself, wasn't about to get up early
Saturday morning to go climbing into caves. He will try this one again next year.
The
Hangtown Car Show: There were a lot of pre '77 cars. As a Club we
only had four cars. Because it was a Labor Day weekend we didn't have a bad showing.
There was a great breakfast for $4. We have one potential member from this run.
He has a 1969 Firebird, with a 462 engine. Color :Candy Apple Red New
Business:
Upcoming
Events: September 7th: Anheuser Busch / Jelly Belly factory
in Vacaville. Meet at Levitz on Watt Avenue at 7:30am out at 8:00am.
September 21st and 22nd: Santa Cruz and Monterey. This is an over-nighter.
Meet at Woody's on Watt Avenue, just south of El Camino, at 7am and leave at 7:30.
Leo is working on reservations at a hotel.
September
27th, 28th, and 29th: P.O.C.I. Western Regional. This is an "All
Pontiac" car show. It will be held in Ventura, on the beautiful California coast,
north west of Los Angeles. Friday night will be dinner and a "cruise in".
Saturday will be the car show with Jim Wagner. He attended our Trans A Rama a
few years ago and some Club members went down to Southern California to attend
one of his events. He will be speaking for about an hour and should give us new
information on the new G.T.O. Pete McCarthy, our 1999 Trans A Rama speaker, will
also be there and telling about some new technical stuff. Sunday morning will
be breakfast and then off for drag racing in Palmdale.
The final night
of the drags happened this last month. It seems Duane ended up just ahead of Ted
Klein for the top gun award. However, it was only by two one thousands of a second.
Always next year, huh Ted?
August
31st: Three cars drove up to Sparks, Nevada for the Big and Tasty
Rib Cook Off. They had dinner in one of the hotels. I couldn’t get an answer on
why they didn't eat ribs
The Sunrise Mall Car Show is being worked on
for October 12th. There seems to be some problem with the cars cracking the tile.
We have had several car shows there in the past and have never had any tiles cracked.
Ted set a board meeting for Saturday September 7th at 3pm at his place
of business. Jerry’s Paint shop on Fulton Avenue. It’s three or four blocks south
of Auburn Blvd. on the East side of the street.
DON'T FORGET!!! At the
October meeting we nominate officers for 2003. This is an important meeting so
if at all possible - PLEASE ATTEND!!
With no further business the meeting
was adjourned at 8:23pm
Respectfully submitted, Irene Raff, Secretary
