TOPGUN = Quickest 1/4 mile time by a club member.
Being a member of the Trans Am Club of America, Golden State
Chapter gains you certain privileges. One of them being the
competition for our yearly "Top Gun" award.
The title for 2002 went to club member Tim O'Neill, running
a best of 11.91 seconds in his "warmed over" 1989
20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am. Tim's T/A is currently under
going an upgrade to the drive train, so he won't be a threat
this year.
There are only three club nights at Sacramento Raceway this
year, and one has already passed. On the first club night,
club member Terry Trimble in her new red 2002 WS6 Trans Am
convertible set the mark with a 13.70 second run. Wally Jefferies
came in second running a 14.54 in his yellow 1969 Firebird
400 convertible. The heavy favorites, Ted Klein with his 455
powered 1969 Firebird and Duane Cleveland with his 2001 WS6
Trans Am have yet to show their faces at the track. If club
member Mark Boyle ever figures out the combination in his
1970 455 powered Trans Am, he could be a threat as well. Club
member Rick Newman has been adding several mods to his LS1
powered, 2001 black Trans Am, thus making him a potential
contender as well! Looks like it's shaping up to be "traditional"
vs. "corporate" powered rivalry again this year!
The winner will be based on the fasted ET run at one of the
Firebird/Trans Am club Wednesday night Drags or the Pontiac
vs. Mopar Wednesday night. See the events calendar for the
dates. My bet is on the vintage 455 powered Firebird.... Wait....
maybe the LS1 powered T/A of Duane's assuming he pays his
club dues! Even Terry has a shot at it if she ever moves her
seat up so she can press the gas pedal to the floor!
